Discussion:
How to get rid of transaction IDs in CICS/TS that begin with "C"?
(too old to reply)

List,

I am on CICS/TS 1.1.1 running on VSE/ESA 2.6.2. I am uninstalling a
product called "ConnectMailbox" from Sterling. We replaced it with a
similar product that runs on AIX.

I have removed the GROUP from my INSTALL LIST in CEDA and also DELETED
it. The problem I am encountering is that the transactions that they
supplied for their CICS interface begin with the letter "C". CEMT won't
allow me to DISCARD transactions that begin with "C".

Is there a way around this? Is there another way to purge that resource?

Been there, tried that and have NOT been able to find a way to DISCARD transactions beginning with C. Then again, why do you care. Next time a recycle occurs, w/Cold Start, they'll be gone.

Dave, Bob, et-al,

Thank you for all the great responses. I am trying to respond to all of
the great ideas you've posted here in 1 response.

1) Here is the result from CEDA command:

EXP G(*) TRANS(CM*)

14.48.22
CMSG TRANSACTION DFHMSWIT 03.316
14.48.32
CMTS TRANSACTION DFHSPI 03.316
14.48.58

2) I checked the SYSLST output from the CICS/TS in question. There is no
reference to the transaction "CMIM".

3) All the other changes I made to RDO via CEDA have taken affect. I
just can't seem to get rid of this CMIM transaction.

4) Here is my PLT. There is no reference to anything from ConnectMailbox
- just a MacKinney program. I verified that there is only 1 instance of
the copybook IESZPLTI and it is the IBM-supplied one in IJSYSRS.SYSLIB:

// EXEC ASSEMBLY,SIZE=512K

5) UCTRAN on the terminal session is not a factor.

I am not really a CICS person, but I remember many moons ago when CICS/TS
came out on MVS. With TS, START=COLD did not work like COLD used to work.
To completely throw everything away and install the definitions from scratch
you had to do a START=INITIAL. I am assuming TS under VSE is the same way.
Did you do a START=COLD or START=INITIAL?

Michael,
A cold start of the CICS TS partition (START=COLD) will reload all the
transaction and program definitions contained in the groups listed in your
start grouplist (SIT GRPLIST). So either the transactions and programs are
in a group in your startup list or the definitions are being created by the
new EXEC CICS CREATE program interface in either a program invoked during
PLT start processing or by another program executed after CICS is started.
You might check the SYSLST output for the CICS partition since install of
resources are logged to CICS transient data destinations that normally end
up in the CICS partition SYSLST output.

Michael,
Another thing to check on this, if you are entering CEDA EXPAND GR(*)
TRANS(cm*) on a terminal that is in mixed case i.e. uppercase translate is
not on (UCTRAN in the DEFINE TYPETERM), the CEDA transaction will not find
the definition unless you enter the transaction id or program letters being
searched on in uppercase.

I found a skeleton named SKCICCLD in lib 59 which infers it is a job for doing a
cold start against a CICS. But the job only deletes/defines the GCD and the LCD --
not the RSD. Is everyone that suggested rebuilding the 3 datasets *certain* that it
is necessary to delete/define the RSD as well?

Mike,
Thats the way I always do cold starts on my CICS'es, I know you're not
supposed to have to delete the two catalogs but I was never able to get rid
of the old removed programs transactions files without doing a delete
define init to all three.

Chuck,

<<Did you do a START=COLD or START=INITIAL?>>

46 START=INITIAL
W1-0046 DFHPA1915 CICSTEST INVALID DATA HAS BEEN DETECTED FOR SIT OVERRIDE

Although START=(COLD,ALL), which is valid, may yield different results.

Frankly me thinks Dave hit the head on the nail (ie. hard coded PCT entries).

Sorry, I sometimes confuse the DFHRSD as the "resource" (RS) dataset
(D). Primarily, from a CICS 2.3 viewpoint, I was speaking of the DFHRSD
(restart) dataset. However, I feel the DFHGCD and DFHLCD could be thought
of as "resource" datasets -- though, obviously, I am not as familiar with
these.

Yes, START=INITIAL *should* prevent having to delete/define (initialize)
these datasets. However, while waiting on IBM to "fix" START=INITIAL, you
can delete/define these datasets to prove that this is the actual problem
(rather than there being a PCT or CREATE TRANS that is biting you).

Michael,

Dave asked <<Does CICS/TS still have PCT's?>>

If it isn't in your CSD file, which you've proven, then it HAS to be there.
Look and see what value you have for PCT=, and locate the either the source or
the .PHASE. It's GOT to be in there.

There's only one other way CMIM can get there and thats with EXEC CICS CREATE
TRANSACTION('CMIM') yada-yada-yada, which Garry mentioned, which could be in
one of your OWN programs. Such an entry, when executed, would show up in your
message log.

Also look on your exec line of DFHSIP and see what is being loaded there. I
had that one time that this overrides DFHSIT. Also be sure what DFHSIT you
are using. Also previous deletes for these files should possibly work. Also
be sure you are using the right DFHCSD in your JCL and standard labels.

Dick,

<<You need to delete define DFHRSD,DFHGCD and DFHLCD to do a cold start of
CICS/TS ....>>

If the doing the above fixes Michaels problem then I'd say an APAR needs to
be written. I don't think the CICS/TS designers meant for us to
DELETE/DEFINE/INIT (the DFHGCD has to be initialized), when a transaction id is deleted, even
IF it starts with C.

Hello Mike,

I believe that you are going to have to 'force' a cold start.
Shutdown CICS normally, Delete/define the RSD (DFHRSD) for that CICS. I
always format my journals (DFHJxxx) too. And since this is a CICS/TS
system you should format the Local and Global Catalog datasets. Make sure
that these are not being used by any other CICS/TS system.

The next time you start up you should see the cold start indication.
And If you still have
CMIM then something else is installing that transaction. And It should be
in the logs at that point.

I believe that the jobs should be in VSAMINIT.Z in Ijsysrs.syslib.

Dave, Bob, et-al,

Thank you for all the great responses. I am trying to respond to all of
the great ideas you've posted here in 1 response.

1) Here is the result from CEDA command:

EXP G(*) TRANS(CM*)
ENTER COMMANDS
NAME TYPE GROUP DATE
TIME
CMSG TRANSACTION DFHCOMP1 03.316
14.51.45
CMTS TRANSACTION DFHCOMP1 03.316
14.51.48
CMPX TRANSACTION DFHISC 03.316
14.48.22
CMSG TRANSACTION DFHMSWIT 03.316
14.48.32
CMTS TRANSACTION DFHSPI 03.316
14.48.58

2) I checked the SYSLST output from the CICS/TS in question. There is no
reference to the transaction "CMIM".

3) All the other changes I made to RDO via CEDA have taken affect. I
just can't seem to get rid of this CMIM transaction.

I TRANS(CMIM)
STATUS: RESULTS - OVERTYPE TO MODIFY
Tra(CMIM) Pri( 001 ) Pro(CMIM001 ) Tcl( DFHTCL00 ) Dis
Prf(DFHCICST) Uda Bel

4) Here is my PLT. There is no reference to anything from ConnectMailbox
- just a MacKinney program. I verified that there is only 1 instance of
the copybook IESZPLTI and it is the IBM-supplied one in IJSYSRS.SYSLIB:

// EXEC ASSEMBLY,SIZE=512K
TITLE 'DFHPLTPI'
DFHPLT TYPE=INITIAL,SUFFIX=PI
SPACE 3
*---------------------------------------------------------------------*
* *
* VSE/ESA ENTRIES FOR PLTPI FOLLOW HERE *
* *
*---------------------------------------------------------------------*
COPY IESZPLTI COPY VSE/ESA INCL. VSE/ICCF ENTRIES
*---------------------------------------------------------------------*
* LOCAL ENTRIES SHOULD BE MADE AFTER THIS POINT *
*---------------------------------------------------------------------*
DFHPLT TYPE=ENTRY,PROGRAM=MTPPPLT
*********************************************************************
SPACE 3
DFHPLT TYPE=FINAL
END
/*
// EXEC LNKEDT

5) UCTRAN on the terminal session is not a factor.

I DID perform a cold start. The transaction IDs still show
up in CEMT. I've disabled them - but they are still there.
They do NOT show up in CEDA anywhere.
You used this in CEDA? EX G(*) TRAN(CMIM)
Does CICS/TS still have PCT's?
Delete and define your resource dataset before COLD start?

Dave Clark

Michael,

<<Is everyone that suggested rebuilding the 3 datasets *certain* that it
is necessary to delete/define the RSD as well?>>

I'm not. That's because whenever I do the GCD or LCD I "ALWAYS" do the RSD
too.

If you do do the GCD you "MUST" do the LCD. If you do do the LCD you "MUST"
do the GCD.

If you do NOT do the RSD and it works let us know, although it's total BS to
have to do it at all.

An update..... I set up a job from skeleton SKCICCLD in library 59 to
reconstruct the GCD and LCD and then force a cold start. I shut down the
CICS, ran the job and then restarted. The infamous CMIM transaction is now
nowhere to be found!!

From your comments, it sounds like I should NOT have had to do that to get
the system to discard the transaction after I purged it from RDO and
cold-started -- even though it started with a "C". I am going to open a PMR
with support on this matter.

Thanks to all who chimed in. A real learning experience!

List,
I am on CICS/TS 1.1.1 running on VSE/ESA 2.6.2.

Just wanted to inform those interested what IBM said concerning this....

They tried to recreate the problem and couldn't. Blocking of CEMT DISCARD TRANS
for a transaction that begins with "C" is intentional there is no way around
it.

They agreed that a cold start on CICS/TS should have removed all the resources
after the resources were refreshed from the CSD during startup. They also
agreed that I should not have had to rebuild the GCD and LCD - but it did
resolve my problem.

They were willing to continue probing if I wanted to try some other things, but
frankly, I am not so concerned with it now. I will, however, be alert to this
problem if I install any other vendor products that supply transaction IDs that
begin with a "C". That's where the problem all began.

Thanks again for everyone's input on this.
