We are a DMS shop and are thinking about converting to BMS to help with
below the line storage. Has anyone gone through this, and if so, how
painful was it ? Are there any DMS panel to BMS mapset conversion tools
available? I recall seeing a similar post a few years ago on this list and
there was mention of a company in Europe that would do the conversion, but
I don't have any of the particulars. Any info would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks.

I posted this same question several years ago. I didn't get an answer I liked.
We are still using DMS. However, nothing new has been written in DMS since about
1997. In a few more years we will probably be able to do away with DMS.

Can someone post what their SIR output looks like under z/VSE (3.1)?

We are a DMS shop and are thinking about converting to BMS to help
with below the line storage. ... Are there any DMS panel to BMS
mapset conversion tools available? ....
I'd suggest looking into products like BMS/GT or SDF II which, I
believe, have the capability to import DMS map definitions.

Extending this further ...

What about the CALC spec's ... we have some DMS code where it basically acts as a screen generator , others have a fair amount of code in there along with substantial COBOL exits.

I posted this same question several years ago. I didn't get an answer I liked.
We are still using DMS. However, nothing new has been written in DMS since about
1997. In a few more years we will probably be able to do away with DMS.

Thanks.

I ran z/VM V3.1.0 under VM 2.4 on a Flex box. I don't see any reason a z/VM V3
or V4 wouldn't run under VM 2.3 also. However z/VM V5 will only run under a z/VM
V3 or V4 system running in 64-bit mode. z/VM V5 will not run under any earlier
version of VM or under z/VM V3 or V4 running in 32-bit mode.

Also unless you already have the software in house you can't get a new license
to run any VM on a Flex box.

Can someone post what their SIR output looks like under z/VSE (3.1)?

This is not a production system. It's a test only system IPLed only when
needed and therefore not customized.

I tried to install VSE/ESA 2.7.3 under VM/ESA 2.3 and I couldn't IPL
the VSE installation tape. I got a message that my machine was not
capable to run VSE 2.7.

I was able to install z/VM 3.1 2nd level on my VM 2.3.

This was all on a FLEX-ES box.

David, I see that you're running VM/ESA 2.3 and z/VSE as a guest. I was told
that it would only run under 2.4 or above. Was I misinformed?
Thanks,
Mike

Are you on a way-back level of Flex? VSE/ESA 2.7.3 requires some
extended floating point routines that are not required for earlier
versions. The installation and IPL check that you can actually us the
extended floating point instructions or it will fail with a message like
the one you are seeing.
